Rutherglen, Vic, winemaker to judge at international show
Australia, Monday, 3 December 2007

In what is a first for Victoria's Rutherglen wine region, a winemaker will be taking his skills overseas to judge at the International Wine Challenge at the Barbican Centre, London.
Head winemaker at Stanton and Killeen Wines, Brendan Heath, will help judge the more than 9000 entries at the challenge, which is regarded as the biggest and best blind tasting in the world.

The competition is run over a two-week period in April, 2008, with up to 1500 wines being assessed daily by panels of judges comprised of international winemakers, merchants and wine writers.

Mr Heath has been working with fortified wines in the Rutherglen Wine Region for more than 15 years, gaining experience under Colin Campbell, of Campbell's Wines, and working closely with the late Chris Killeen, before taking on the role of head winemaker at Stanton and Killeen Wines this year.

He said he was honoured to be included amongst such a strong field of experienced wine industry identities, and that Rutherglen fortifieds were regarded so highly on an international basis.

Stanton and Killeen has traditionally performed well in the International Wine Challenge, taking out the International Fortified Muscat Trophy in 2004.
