The ENS has been developed for Australian
employers to recruit, on a permanent basis, highly skilled staff
from overseas or temporary residents currently in Australia,
when they have been unable to find suitable Australians to
perform the job.
From 2nd of April 2005, Australian Government has amended the
laws to streamline the process for employers to sponsor overseas
worker permanently.
Currently there are 3 ways that overseas worker can be
sponsored by Australian Businesses:
1. If the worker has been working on work visa for 2 years
and has been working for the employers for 3 years, then the
employer can sponsor the worker to get PR and work for the
employer permanently.
2. If the overseas worker has met the Skilled Occupation
Assessment conducted by Australian authorities, the an
Australian employer can directly sponsor the overseas worker to
settle in Australia and work for the employer on permanent
basis.
3. If the overseas worker would be paid by Australian
employer for the employment up to a government gazetted level,
then the Australian employer can directly sponsor the overseas
work from overseas and commence working for the Australian
employer.
The age requirement for overseas applicant is under 45 years
of age and have vocational English. However, these requirements
can be waived under certain circumstance.
