Statistics show that the annual intake of 363 universities in China in 2001 has been as much as 61,869 students from 169 different countries.By 2007, the figure would be double and reach a level of 120,000 according to the forecast of Ministry of Education.

Chinese universities provide both degree education and training with the former including senior and junior undergraduate students, master degree students and PhD students and latter including trainees and research schools.

Chinese universities teach different type of students with different methods. Overseas students study together with their Chinese counterparts. But students are offered to choose a variety of optional courses, which are tailor-made to suit individual needs.

Chinese government welcomes international students to study in areas such as Chinese language, culture and traditional medicine. Some Chinese universities are able to offer courses directly in foreign languages.
